PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Former Providence College women's basketball player Jovana Nogic '19 will compete for Serbia's women's national team at the 2023 FIBA Women's EuroBasket. Also known as the European Championships, the tournament is slated to begin on June 15 and will conclude with the championship final on June 25. This year's FIBA Women's EuroBasket will be held at Stozice Arena in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
Serbia will begin the championship in the Group Phase (Group D) along with Turkey, Slovakia and Hungary. The opening game for Serbia is scheduled for June 15 against Turkey.
The Stozice Arena will host Groups C and D as well as the Qualification for the Quarterfinals and the corresponding Quarterfinals, as well as the Final Phase of FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2023.
In September 2022, Nogic played for Serbia at the FIBA World Cup in Australia. Nogic averaged 10.2 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game as Serbia finished sixth among the 12 teams that competed. She scored a tournament-best 17 points during Group Phase vs. France. Serbia advanced to the Quarterfinals, where they were defeated by the United States. Nogic recorded 11 points, five rebounds and one steal vs. the eventual World Cup Champs in that game.
During FIBA Women's EuroBasket Qualifiers, Nogic averaged 11.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.
Nogic enjoyed an impressive career at Providence College from 2015-2019. She was a two-time All-BIG EAST Honorable Mention selection and Ann Meyers Drysdale Award candidate. She finished her career ranked fourth all-time in scoring with 1,724 points (125 games). She posted 85 double-digits games during her career, including 26 games with 20-or-more points.
Nogic set program records for career three-point field goals (323), single-season three-point field goals (93 in 2018-19), career free-throw percentage (.909, 229-252) and single-season free-throw percentage (.945, 86-91). Nogic also finished her career ranked third all-time in the BIG EAST Conference in three-point field goals during regular-season conference play (167).
In 2018-19, Nogic helped guide the Friars to their first post-season appearance since 2010 as part of the Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT). Nogic averaged a team-best 19.3 points during the Friars' WNIT run. She went on to sign a professional contract to play for Cadi La Seu in 2019, which competes in Liga Endesa (First Spanish League). She also has played for CDB Clarinos, Tenerife (Spain), Campus Promete (Spain) and CB Perfumerias Avenida (Spain).
