Diego Batista and Brendan McSorley named to All-East Region Second Team. Gevork Diarbian named to All-East Region Third team.

PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The United Soccer Coaches All-Region Teams were announced on December 5 for NCAA Division I Men's Soccer. Three Providence College student-athletes were featured as All-East Region honorees. Diego Batista (Barcelos, Portugal) and Brendan McSorley (Randolph, N.J.) were named to the All-East Region Second Team, while Gevork Diarbian (Cranston, R.I.) was selected to the All-East Region Third Team.

In his first year as a Friar, Batista has been a key player in the midfield, recording five assists and one goal in the 2023 season. Batista marked his lone goal of the season on Sept. 15, which helped the team to a 3-3 tie against then-ranked No.3 Akron.

McSorley was a force in the Friar offense, consistently leading Providence in both points and goals, capping off the 2023 season with 11 goals and one assist, for a total of 23 points. In the BIG EAST Quarterfinal match on Nov.4 against the No.6-Seed Creighton, McSorley netted two goals for the Friars, including the game-winning goal within the first minute of the game. McSorley started and played in all 17 games for Providence, logging 1,332 minutes. This season, McSorley has garnered several weekly accolades, such as being named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll (10/2/23), earning the title of BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week (10/23/23), and being recognized as College Soccer News Men's National Player of the Week (10/23/23).

Gevork Diarbian has started all 64 games during his four seasons as a Friar. This season, Diarbian registered two goals and five assists for a total of nine points. In the BIG EAST Quarterfinal match on Nov.4 against No.6-Seed Creighton, Diarbian marked three shots and an assist in the 70th minute to help Providence to a 3-0 win. This season, Diarbian was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team, and two times to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll (9/18, 10/16).  This marks Diarbian's fourth United Soccer Coaches recognition.

BIG EAST men's soccer student-athletes made up more than half of the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I All-East Region Teams.
