The Friars scored three times in the third period on Saturday.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Third period goals by Chase Yoder, Taige Harding and Craig Needham along with a 15-save shutout from Philip Svedebäck paced the No. 10/11 Providence College men's hockey team to a 3-0 win over Brown in the 37th Mayor's Cup on Saturday (Dec. 30) at Meehan Auditorium.

NOTES

- The Bears and Friars skated through the opening 20 minutes scoreless with each team having one power-play opportunity.

- Providence held a 12-5 advantage in shots after one period of play.

- The Friars continued the pressure in the second period but couldn't find the back net after a 13-7 shot advantage in the middle frame.

- Craig Needham appeared to score midway through the period but the net was knocked off the pegs before the puck crossed the goal line.

- Svedebäck stood tall late in the period as he denied Ryan Shostak's breakaway bid to keep the game scoreless.

- The Friars finally broke through at 8:22 of the third period as Chase Yoder notched his sixth goal of the season to give Providence a 1-0 lead. Nick Poisson and Guillaume Richard earned the assists.

- Taige Harding added insurance just 1:37 as his shot popped up into the air and landed in the back of the net for a 2-0 lead. Austen May earned the assist on the play.

- Craig Needham sealed the game with an empty-net goal, his second of the year to give the Friars a 3-0 lead with 1:58 remaining.

- Providence captures the Mayor's Cup for the seventh time in eight seasons.

- Svedebäck earns his third-career shutout and second of the year.
