BOYDS, Md.- No.3-Seed Providence College men's soccer was defeated, 1-0, by No.2-Seed Xavier University on Thursday, Nov.9, in the BIG EAST Semifinals. The Friars outshot the Musketeers, 19-7.
Diego Batista (Barcelos, Portugal) led the team with five shots. This marked the Friars' 16
th appearance in a BIG EAST Semifinal match.

•Providence outshot Xaiver, 5-2, in the first half.

Gevork Diarbian (Cranston, R.I.) had the clearest scoring opportunity in the first half for the Friars in the 28
th minute following a break-away play and shot to the lower right corner. Johnny Mennell made the save to keep the game scoreless entering halftime.
• Xavier opened the scoring in the 47
th minute of the match. Taylor Rhinehart scored off a rebound from
Lukas Burns' (Cinnaminson, N.J.) save.

Nathan Messer (London, England) almost scored the equalizer for the Friars in the 50
th minute, however, his shot bounced off the far post.
• Providence drew a penalty with 17 minutes left to play, Mennell made a diving save to keep the lead at, 1-0, for Xavier.
• The Friars outshot the Musketeers, 14-5, in the second half and, 19-7, in the game.
