PROVIDENCE, R.I.– The Providence College men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y. for the NCAA Northeast Regionals on Friday, Nov. 10. The women's 6k race is set for 11:00 a.m., followed by the men's 10k race at 12:00 p.m. The Providence women are ranked third in the Northeast Region and 29th nationally, while the men are ranked fifth in the region. The top two men's and women's teams will automatically qualify for the NCAA Championship on Nov. 18.
The Friar women will be led by
Kimberley May (Auckland, New Zealand),
Shannon Flockhart (Longstanton, England),
Laura Mooney (Cappincur, Ireland) and
Reese Fahys (East Greenwich, R.I.). At the BIG EAST Championship in Kenosha, Wis. on Oct. 28, May finished second (20:06), Flockhart finished ninth (20:40), Mooney finished 12
th (20:57) and Fahys placed 14
th (21:08) to give the Friars a second-place finish.
Liam Back (New Plymouth, New Zealand),
Abdel Laadjel (Lucan, Ireland),
Michael Morgan (Sligo, Ireland) and Patrick Thygesen (Brisbane, Australia) will lead the charge for the Friar men. Back led the Friars at the BIG EAST Championships with an eighth-place finish (25:22) and Laadjel finished in ninth (25:28). Morgan finished in 11
th (25:40), followed by Thygesen in 18
th (15:53).
