Women's Hoops Defeats Monmouth, 57-40

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's basketball team improved to 3-2 on the season with a 57-40 victory over Monmouth on Nov. 22 in Providence, R.I. Olivia Olsen recorded her first double-double of the season and fifth of her career with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
1ST QUARTER:
• The Friars got out to a 9-3 lead over the first six minutes of action.
• A 7-2 run got the Hawks within one, but four-straight points by Brynn Farrell gave the Friars a 15-10 lead with 1:08 on the clock.
• Monmouth was scoreless over the final 4:05 of the quarter.
• Farrell and Emily Archibald combined for nine of the Friars' 15 points.
2ND QUARTER:
• The Friars started the second quarter 0-4 before Marta Morales Romero got a short baseline jumper to drop at the 6:27 mark (17-13).
• With Monmouth in the midst of a scoring drought of 2:51, Archibald banked in a three to put Providence ahead 20-13 with 3:57 on the clock. The bucket forced a Monmouth timeout.
• Providence extended its lead to 11 with a 9-0 run (24-13).
• The Friars' defense continued to hold the Hawks scoreless, with the drought extending to five minutes and 27-seconds until a free-throw with 1:18 remaining.
• Providence got 13 points from its bench during the first half and took a 28-14 lead into the locker room.
• Archibald paced the Friars with seven points in the first half and Olivia Olsen grabbed a team-best five boards.
3RD QUARTER:
• Providence got out to a 18-point advantage (37-19) with 7:18 remaining on the clock.
• An 8-0 spurt by Monmouth cut the lead to 37-27 with 2:42 left, forcing a Providence timeout.
• Farrell ended a five-minute scoring drought with a free throw at the 2:12 mark.
• Sarah Bandoma got loose on the break for a transition bucket on the Friars' next possession, marking Providence's first field goal in a span of 5:44.
• Monmouth outscored Providence 18-14 in the third quarter.
• The Friars led 42-32 heading into the fourth quarter.
4TH QUARTER:
• Monmouth crept within seven points early in the quarter (44-37).
• Providence closed out the game with a 13-3 scoring advantage to take a 57-40 win.
NOTES:
• Olsen recorded her first double-double of the season and fifth of her career on 17 points and 11 rebounds. She shot 7-11 from the field in the game.
• Archibald recorded a season-high 10 points and eight rebounds. Her eight boards were one shy of her career high.
