Brendan McSorley and Miguel Candela earned All-Tournament Team honors at the conclusion of the BIG EAST Men’s Soccer Tournament.
BOYDS, Md.- It was announced today (Nov.12) that senior forward Brendan McSorley (Randolph, N.J.) and graduate defender Miguel Candela (Caceres, Spain) were named to the 2023 BIG EAST All-Tournament Team for men's soccer. McSorley and Candela helped the team to its 23rd appearance in the BIG EAST Tournament and 16th appearance in the semifinals.
In the BIG EAST Quarterfinal match on Nov. 4 against the No. 6-seed Creighton, McSorley netted two goals for the No. 3-seed Friars, including the game-winning goal within the first minute of the match. In the BIG EAST Semifinal match against eventual champion, Xavier, McSorley recorded three shots and logged 88 minutes. McSorley concluded the season as the Friars' leading scorer, with a career-high 11 goals and one assist (23 points).
Candela started 16 games this season for the Friars, including the BIG EAST Quarterfinal match and Semifinal game. Candela has been a pillar in the Friar defense throughout the 2023 season, playing 1,307 minutes and tallying three assists. With Candela in the backline, the Friars registered a 1.24 goals against average and an opponent average of .383 shots on goal per game.
