Josh Oduro finished with a double-double for the Friars.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's basketball team defeated Milwaukee, 79-69, on Saturday, November 11 at the Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence, R.I. With the win, the Friars improved to 2-0 this season. Sophomore Jayden Pierre (Elizabeth, N.J.) led the Friars in scoring with 16 points. Graduate student Josh Oduro (Gainesville, Va.) finished with a double-double scoring 13 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.  

"Great team win," Head Coach Kim English said. "Overall good effort from the group especially in key moments."  

FIRST HALF: 

•Pierre scored the first points for the Friars on a driving layup.  

•The Friars got off to a 6-0 start holding the Panthers scoreless for the first three minutes of action.  

•Providence led, 11-7, at the first media timeout.  

•At the 12:03 mark, Ticket Gaines (Buffalo, N.Y.) ended a three-minute scoring drought for the Friars. The Friars held a slim two-point lead, 13-11.  

•With 7:45 left in the half, Devin Carter (Miami, Fla.) knocked down a three-pointer to give Providence their largest lead of the game of seven, 21-14.  

•Providence led 28-22 at the final media timeout of the half.  

•At the 2:54 mark, Corey Floyd, Jr. completed an alley-oop from Pierre to give the Friars a double-digit lead, 32-22.  

•Carter drained a three-pointer to close out the half. The Friars held a 39-26 lead at halftime.  

•Seven Friars scored in the first half. Carter led in scoring with 11 points. 

•Providence shot 15-37 (40.5 %) from the field, 6-17 (35.3 %) from three and 3-9 (33.3 %) from the free throw line.  

•Milwaukee shot 10-27 (37.0 %) from the field, 1-9 (11.1 %) from three and 5-6 (83.3 %) from the free throw line.  

SECOND HALF: 

Bryce Hopkins (Oak Park, Ill.) scored the Friars' first points of the half at the free throw line.  

•Pierre drained a three-pointer to add to the Friars' 7-0 run and cause a Panthers timeout with 16:02 left in the half. The Friars held their biggest lead of the game, 49-33.  

•The Panthers went on a 6-0 run over 1:23 minutes to force a Providence timeout with 12:45 left. Providence led by seven, 52-45.  

•At the 12:31 mark, Garwey Dual (Houston, Texas) answered after the timeout draining a three-pointer, 55-45.  

•At the 10:19 mark, Pierre found Floyd for a single-handed slam on the other end of the court. The Friars led by 12, 61-49.  

•With 6:22 left, Dual found Oduro wide open in the paint to give Providence a 13-point lead, 70-57.  

•The Friars led 75-64 at the final media timeout with just over two minutes left of action.  

NOTES/HIGHLIGHTS: 

•Providence finished 26-66 (39.4%) from the field, 10-31 (32.3%) from three and 17-26 (65.4 %) from the free throw line.  

•Milwaukee finished 23-61 (37.7 %) from the field, 3-17 (17.6 %) from three and 20-23 (87.0 %) from the free throw line.   

•Five players finished in double figures for the Friars in, Jayden Pierre (16), Josh Oduro (13), Devin Carter (13), Bryce Hopkins (10) and Garwey Dual (14).  

•The Friars dished out 11 more assists than the Panthers. 

•BJ Freeman led the way for the Panthers scoring 33 points.  

•The Friars improved to 8-0 all-time versus the Horizon League, including a 6-0 mark at the Amica Mutual Pavilion.  

•Providence improved to 88-5 in non-conference home games over the last 13 seasons, including a 21-game unbeaten streak since 2019. 

•Attendance – 12,090 

WHAT'S NEXT: 

•The Friars will host the University of Wisconsin in the Gavitt Tip-Off games on Tuesday, November 14 at the Amica Mutual Pavillon in Providence, R.I. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. on FS1.  

•The Friars hold a 4-1 all-time edge over the Badgers, including a 1-0 record in the Gavitt Tip-Off games with a 63-58 win on November 15, 2021, in Madison, Wis.
