PROVIDENCE, R.I.– The USTFCCCA released its Regional and Nationals Coaches' Poll on Oct. 31. The Providence College women's cross country team is ranked No. 3 in the Northeast Region and 29th in the nation. The Friar men's cross country team is ranked fifth in the Northeast Region.
The cross country teams competed at the BIG EAST Cross Country Championship in Kenosha, Wis. on Oct. 28. The Friar women finished second (56 points) of 11 teams. The men finished fourth (75 points) of nine teams.
Kimberley May (Auckland, New Zealand) led the Friars with an impressive second-place finish (20:06.5). Following May was
Shannon Flockhart (Longstanton, England) in ninth (20:40.7) and
Laura Mooney in 12
th (20:57.2).
Reese Fahys (East Greenwich, R.I.) and
Cara Laverty (Derry, Ireland) rounded out the top runners for the women in 14
th (21:08.4) and 19
thplaces (21:23.9), respectively. The top-20 individual finishers overall earned All-BIG EAST honors.
On the men's side,
Liam Back (New Plymouth, New Zealand) and
Abdel Laadjel (Lucan, Ireland) both finished in the top-10. Back placed eighth (25:22.5) and Laadjel finished ninth (25:28.6). They were followed by
Michael Morgan (Sligo, Ireland) in 11
th place (25:40.9), Patrick Thygesen (Brisbane, Australia) in 18
th (25:53.5) and
Luke Coffin (Annapolis, Md.) in 29
th(26:40.4). The top-20 individual finishers overall earned All-BIG EAST honors.
The Friar men and women toe the line next at the NCAA Northeast Regionals held at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y. on Friday, Nov. 10.
