Women’s Soccer Defeated By UConn, 2-1

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College women's soccer was defeated by UConn, 2-1, on Sunday, Oct. 22 on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. This marks the Friars' first league loss of the season.

GAME FLOW AND NOTES

-UConn opened the scoring in the 23^rd minute. Cara Jordan sent a left-footed shot from the left side of the box into the low right corner of the goal.

-The Huskies pushed the lead to, 2-0, in the 54^th minute when Abbey Jones took a free kick from the top of the box that rang off the post. Lucy Cappadona recovered the rebound and finished for UConn.

-Providence cut the deficit to, 2-1, in the 71^st minute. Gillian Kenney passed to Marryn Gruhn (Northport, N.Y.) who scored off a shot from inside the 18-yard box.

-The Huskies outshot the Friars 6-4 in the first half and 14-10 in the game.

-Providence goalkeepers Emma Bodmer and Katherine McElroy each made two saves for the Friars.

- Providence entered the game as one of three teams in the BIG EAST that had not lost a league game.

(1-0)-UConn-23:58/1^st- Jordan's left-footed shot found the low right corner.

(2-0)-UConn-52:56/2^nd-Jones' free-kick hit the post, Cappadona headed-in the rebound.
