Last Time Out…
- The Friars dominated Stonehill (0-3-0) in every facet of the game, outshooting the Skyhawks 61-6 en route to a 7-1 victory at Schneider Arena.
- Seven different Friars registered goals last Friday, including four first goals of the season.
- Forward Cal Kiefiuk opened the scoring for the Friars midway through the first frame, with Riley Duran and Luke Krys assisting on the play.
- Providence scored three more in the second period, with Tanner Adams, Brady Berard, and Bennett Schimek all finding the back of the net.
- The Friars continued their dominant play in the third period, as Nick Poisson, Jaroslav Chmelar, and Jamie Englebert lit the lamp, giving Providence a 7-0 lead.
- In the dwindling moments of the third period, Stonehill forward Frank Ireland got one past Marcus Brännman, negating the shutout and putting the Skyhawks on the board.
- Tanner Adams and Jaroslav Chmelar led the Friars with six shots on net each to finish the game. Three Friars finished with five shots on net while six Friars finished with four.
- Following Friday's action, Bennett Schimek, Riley Duran, Jaroslav Chmelar, Nick Poisson, and Liam Valente lead Providence in goals, all with two apiece while defenseman Luke Krys leads the Friars in total assists at five.

Connor Kelley Named Hockey East Defender of the Week
Connor Kelley earned the second-consecutive Hockey East Defender of the Week accolade for the Friars after posting two assists and registering a team-high +5 rating in last Friday's 7-1 win over Stonehill.

Balanced Attack
Fifteen Friars has found the scoresheet through three games this season. Ten players have recorded at least a point per game to start the season and 10 different players have scored goals thus far.
 
Changing of the Guard
The Friars have appointed Cam McDonald and Chase Yoder as co-captains and Craig Needham and Nick Poisson as alternate captains for the 2023-24 season.
 
Young Bucks
Providence boasts one of the NCAA's youngest rosters, tying with Cornell and Notre Dame for the seventh-youngest lineup at an average of 21.7 years of age.
 
Lockdown Defense
The Friars come into the 2023-24 season after allowing 84 goals in their previous campaign, good for tenth-best across the NCAA. Instrumental in this trend was Philip Svedebäck, who averaged 2.18 goals allowed per game in the 2022-23 season, ranking him tenth amongst qualified goaltenders in the NCAA.

Providence returns seven of their top ten scorers from the 2022-23 season. Nick Poisson (10-10-20, T-4), Riley Duran (8-12-20, T-4), Bennett Schimek (11-9-20, T-4), Taige Harding (4-13-17, 7th), Chase Yoder (8-7-15, 8th), Jaroslav Chmelar (7-6-13, 9th), Liam Valente (3-8-11, 10th).

Scouting the Pioneers…
- No. 2 Denver (2-0-0, 0-0-0 NCHC) enters their matchup with the Friars coming off of a successful road trip to Fairbanks, where they handled the Alaska Nanooks in a pair of road games.
- Denver registered six different players with 30+ points during the 2022-23 season, returning three of them: Massimo Rizzo (17-29-46, 1st), Aidan Thompson (10-22-32, 5th), Jack Devine (14-17-31, 6th).
- Junior forward Massimo Rizzo (0-7-7) leads the Pioneers in both points and assists through two games on the season. Rizzo is tied for second most points and tied for first in assists across the NCAA this year.
- Junior forward Jack Devine (4-2-6) leads the Pioneers in goals through a pair of games.
- Denver boasts a 25.5 shooting percentage, good for best across the NCAA this season.
- The Pioneers have capitalized on the power-play this season, scoring on 28.6% of their man-advantages this season, ranking tenth-best across the NCAA.

Series History vs. Denver (10-9-3, .528)
The teams will meet for the third-consecutive season after Denver earned a two-game sweep over the Friars at home in 2022-23. The last meeting at Schneider Arena was a memorable one as Providence rallied from a three-goal deficit in the third period to win 6-5 on Oct. 22, 2021.
 
Scouting the Engineers…
- RPI enters the weekend at 0-2-0 after getting swept on the road at Maine last weekend. The Engineers will visit Boston College on Friday night before visiting Schneider Arena on Saturday.
- Jake Gagnon and Sutter Muzzatti pace RPI in points with two points each. Gagnon scored twice in the Engineers' 6-3 loss against the Black Bears last Friday.
- In goal, Jack Watson and Carson Cherepak split starts at Maine last weekend. Watson posted a .930 save percentage in his lone start while Cherepak registered a .900 save percentage in his start.
 
Series History vs. RPI (26-24-4, .528)
The former ECAC rivals will battle for the first time since 2005 on Saturday night at Schneider Arena. RPI won the previous two meetings in Troy, N.Y. in 2004 and 2005, with the Friars earning a 5-2 win in the last meeting at Schneider Arena in October of 2003.
