Friars Rally In Third Quarter But Fall To Seton Hall, 76-60

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's basketball team fell to Seton Hall, 76-60, on Sunday, Jan. 8 at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. The Pirates improved to 13-4 overall and 6-1 in the BIG EAST, while the Friars dropped to 10-7 (1-5 BIG EAST).
1ST QUARTER:
• A 10-2 run gave Seton Hall a 15-9 lead with 3:01 left.
• Providence's Olivia Olsen ended a scoring drought of nearly three minutes with a lay-in at the 1:39 mark.
• A Kylee Sheppard three-point bucket from the left wing with 57-seconds left trimmed the Friars' deficit to three (17-14).
• The Pirates closed the quarter with five unanswered points to take a 22-14 lead into the intermission.
2ND QUARTER:
• The Pirates extended their run to 10-0 in the opening minute of play in the second.
• Grace Efosa got her first points of the day for Providence at the 8:53 mark to end the Pirate's run, but Seton Hall quickly responded with its fourth three of the game (30-16).
• SHU held a 34-18 lead at the media timeout (3:58).
• A 6-0 spurt by the Friars made it a 10-point game (34-24) with 1:33 on the clock.
• The Pirates held a 38-26 lead at halftime.
• Providence shot just 37-percent from the field in the first half (10-27) and committed 12 turnovers.
• Seton Hall outscored Providence 10-0 in points off turnovers and shot 41-percent from the field in the opening half (14-34).
3RD QUARTER:
• An 8-0 run during a span of 1:44 got the Friars within six (43-37), forcing a Seton Hall timeout with 7:07 on the clock. Four different players converted buckets in the run.
• Lauren Park-Lane scored eight-straight points for Seton Hall to give the Pirates a 51-37 lead with 5:08 to play.
• Efosa and Sheppard scored back-to-back buckets in transition on consecutive possessions to close the gap to 51-41 with 4:00 showing on the clock.
• It sparked a 10-2 spurt for Providence to make it a 53-48 game with 1:34 to play.
• Park-Lane converted a traditional three-point play after a Seton Hall timeout and Jala Jordan knocked down a baseline three with less than a second on the clock and got fouled en route to a four-point play.
• The 7-0 run gave Seton Hall a 60-48 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
4TH QUARTER:
• Seton Hall earned its largest lead of the game (73-56) with 3:25 on the clock.
• The Pirates outscore the Friars 16-12 in the final frame to take a 76-60 win.
NOTES:
• Sheppard paced three Friars in double figures with a season-high 20 points on 7-14 shooting from the floor.
• Olivia Olsen recorded her first double-double of the season and third of her career with 11 points and 11 boards. Five of her 11 boards came off the offensive glass.
• Olsen also contributed two assists, three steals and two blocked shots.
• Brynn Farrell rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points and also added eight rebounds.
• Janai Crooms recorded eight points, nine rebounds team-best four assists.
• Providence dominated the glass, 43-30, including a 15-5 advantage in offensive rebounds.
• Seton Hall shot 45-percent from the floor (29-64) for the game, while the Friars shot 37-percent (22-59).

• The Friars return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 11 against BIG EAST foe Xavier. The game serves as the backdrop for the program's annual Project Providence event and is scheduled to tip-off at 11:00 a.m.
