Last Time Out...
- The 11th-ranked Providence College men's hockey team skated to a 3-3 tie against Army West Point on Sunday (Jan. 8) at Tate Rink.
- The Friars broke the ice at the 12:44 mark of the first period after fast paced opening half of the first period. Jamie Engelbert netted his third goal of the season after Cam McDonald found him open in the slot.
- Providence outshot the Black Knights 13-3 during the middle frame, but it was Army who scored the lone goal to bring the game even on a power-play strike by Joey Baez at 13:43.
- Parker Ford put the Friars ahead at 6:35 of the third period with his eighth goal of the season after re-directing Brett Berard's centering pass into the back of the net. Bennett Schimek earned the secondary assist.
- Army's Ricky Lyle tied the game at 2-2 at the 10:22 mark.
- Patrick Moynihan's one-timer on the power play regained the lead for the Friars at 3-2 with 7:05 remaining in regulation. It was Moynihan's sixth goal of the season with assists to Crozier and Ford.
- The Black Knights tied it up during a 6-on-4 advantage as Baez cleaned up a loose puck in a scrum with 1:20 remaining.
- Both teams had two shots each during the overtime period.
- Providence played its ninth overtime game of the season.
 
Eighteen Current, Former and Future Friars Appear in NHL Development Camps
The Friars boasted 18 past, present and future players that appeared in NHL Development Camps back in July. Shorthanded Success
With three shorthanded goals during the weekend of Dec. 30-31, the Friars now rank second in the NCAA in that category with six shorties this season - one behind leader Ohio State.
 
Crozier and Ford Named Captains; McDonald Added To Leadership Group
The Friars anointed seniors Max Crozier and Parker Ford as the team's co-captains for the 2022-23 season. Both players were alternate captains last season. Prior to last Friday's game at Boston College, senior defenseman Cam McDonald was named an alternate captain.
 
Family Affair
Providence's Max Crozier and Merrimack's Tristan Crozier faced each other on Dec. 10 and Dec. 31. There will be two other meetings between brothers this season - Nick and Ben Poisson (Maine) from Jan. 27-28 and Grant and Aidan Porter (Princeton) on Jan. 17.
 
Schimek Earns Monthly/Weekly Accolades; Svedebäck Named Goaltender of the Week
Freshman Bennett Schimek earned Hockey East Rookie of the Month and Player of the Week on Jan. 2 after recording four goals and two assists in December, with three goals and two assists coming over two games at the Ledyard Classic from Dec. 30-31.

Providence ices the sixth youngest roster in the NCAA with an average age of 21.1 years and has a combined 16 first and second year players out of a 29-player roster.
 
Desharnais Makes NHL Debut With Edmonton
Former Friar Vincent Desharnais '19 made his NHL debut with the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday night in Anaheim. He became the 44th Friar to appear in the NHL and finished the night with three hits in 15:04 of ice time.
 
Friars at the World Junior Championships
Freshman Jaroslav Chmelar made his second appearance in the World Junior Championships with Czechia. Through seven games, Chmelar posted three goals and two assists  with a +8 rating and earned a silver medal after Czechia was defeated in overtime by Canada, 3-2, in the gold medal game.
 
Three is the Magic Number
The Friars are 202-20-22 all-time under Nate Leaman when scoring three or more goals in a game.
 
After 40
The Friars are 183-7-18 all-time under Nate Leaman when holding a lead after two periods.
 
Series History vs. Merrimack (PC leads 93-38-12, .685)
The Friars and Warriors conclude their season series this weekend in North Andover. The Warriors earned a 3-2 victory at Schneider Arena back on Dec. 10, while the Friars scored a 6-1 win at the Ledyard Classic on Dec. 31. Merrimack has won four of six overall in the series.
 
Series History vs. Princeton (PC leads 25-12-3, .663)
The Friars and Tigers will meet for the second-consecutive season after going over a decade between meetings. The Friars swept a two-game series at Schneider Arena last season with 7-0 and 3-2 victories. Tuesday will mark Providence's first trip to Hobey Baker Rink since 1997, a 4-4 tie against the Tigers on Nov. 30, 1997.
