PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The USTFCCCA released its latest Regional and National Coaches' Poll on Sept. 13. The Providence College women's cross country team is ranked No. 1 in the Northeast Region and 15
th in the nation. The Friar men's cross country team is ranked 5
th in the Northeast Region and is receiving votes in the national poll.
The Providence College men's and women's cross-country teams competed at the Friar Invitational in Attleboro, Mass. on Sept. 9. The Friar women finished first out of five teams after scoring 23 points. The men finished second of six teams (37 points).
The women's team was led by Lilly Tuck (Sunderland, Canada) who won the women's race with a time of 17:16.42. Fellow Friars, Shannon Flockhart (Longstanton, England), Laura Mooney (Cappincur, Ireland), Niamh O'Mahony (Kerry, Ireland) and Halle Atkinson (Franklin, Mass.) also held positions toward the head of the pack during the race. Flockhart finished second (17:30), Mooney finished fourth (17:49), O'Mahony finished fifth (17:50) and Atkinson placed 11
th (18:28).
For the men, the Friars were led by
Liam Back (New Plymouth, New Zealand) with a third-place finish (24:40.84).
Michael Morgan (Sligo, Ireland) finished second for the Friars and sixth overall (24:53), graduate student
David McGlynn (Waterford, Ireland) finished eighth (24:59), followed by
Shane Coffey (Naas, Ireland) finishing ninth (25:03) and
David Principe, Jr. (Johnston, R.I.) placed 11
th (25:07).
The Friar men and women toe the line next in Bethlehem, Pa. on Friday, September 30 for the Lehigh Paul Short Invitational.
