PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College women's soccer Head Coach
Sam Lopes released the team's 2022 fall schedule today (July 25). The 18-game slate includes match-ups against seven teams who qualified for the 2021 NCAA tournament and finished inside the top-50 in the NCAA RPI at the conclusion of the season (Dec. 6).
The Friars will open the 2022 season on Thursday, August 18 against Colgate on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I. Providence will then head to Boston, Mass. to face Boston University on Sunday, August 21. Last season, the Friars dominated on home turf with a 7-1-1 record.
Three of Providence's next five matches are scheduled to be played on home turf, beginning with a match-up against 2021 NCAA Tournament Final Four team, Rutgers University (Aug. 25). The Scarlet Knights lost in the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament last season and ended with an overall record of 19-4-2. The Friars will also play Boston College (Sept. 8) and Monmouth (Sept. 11) on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium.
On Sept. 15, the Friars will conclude their non-conference portion of the schedule against cross-town rival Brown University in Providence, R.I.
Providence opens BIG EAST conference play in South Orange, N.J. against Seton Hall on Sept. 22 and then will return home to face Butler on Sept. 29.
On Oct. 2, the Friars will travel to Omaha, Neb. to face Creighton before returning to Chapey Field for their next two games against DePaul (Oct. 6) and St. John's (Oct. 9).
Providence will conclude the regular season with three of its last five games on the road. The Friars will travel to play Marquette (Oct. 13), defending BIG EAST Champions Xavier (Oct. 20) and BIG EAST foe UConn (Oct. 23). The team will face Georgetown (Oct. 16) and Villanova (Oct. 27) for their final two home games on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium.
The BIG EAST saw four teams finish inside the top-50 of the NCAA RPI alongside Providence (No. 41). Georgetown led the group at No. 14, followed by Xavier at No. 16 and St. John's at No. 37. Butler fell just below Providence at No. 43.
Providence completed the 2021 season with a 10-7-3 overall record, including a 5-3-2 mark during BIG EAST action. The Friars finished fifth in the BIG EAST standings and earned an at-large bid to the 2021 NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1993.
