Walker will become the third Friar inducted into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame as Dave Gavitt (2006) and Ernie DiGregorio (2019) earned the honor previously.

Walker, who passed away in 2007, is considered by many as one of the greatest college basketball players ever from New England.  Walker, who grew up in Roxbury, Mass., played for the Friars from 1964-67.  He came to Providence College to play for legendary coaches Joe Mullaney and Dave Gavitt.  In his three years of varsity eligibility, he averaged 25.2 points, 6.3 rebounds and 5.3 points.  Unfortunately, freshman were not eligible to play when Walker competed and there was no three-point line.  However in his three seasons of action, Walker scored 2,045 points and ranks third all-time at Providence in scoring.  He led the Friars to the post-season in each of three years as the team made the NCAA Tournament twice (1965 and 1966) and NIT once (1967).  During his 81 career games, the Friars posted a 67-14 mark.  In his senior season, he led the nation in scoring, averaging 30.4 points per game and earned unanimous First Team All-America honors.  His 30.4 ppg average remains a Providence College single-season record.   Also, during his senior season Walker set what was the Friar single-game scoring record when he registered 50 points in the Friars' 91-86 victory over Boston College to capture the Holiday Festival on December 30, 1965 at Madison Square Garden.  At the time, his 50 points tied Oscar Robertson's Madison Square Garden scoring record.

Walker was the No. 1 selection in the 1967 NBA Draft by the Detroit Pistons.  He is the only player from a New England college ever selected No. 1 in the NBA Draft.  He spent nine seasons in the NBA and made the NBA All-Star Team in 1970 and 1972.
