Friars will open the tournament versus Miami on Saturday, November 19.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced today (May 17) the field of teams for the 2022 Tip-Off Tournament. The annual NCAA men's exempt tournament sponsored by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference will take place on Saturday, November 19 and Sunday, November 20 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. The Friars will open the tournament against ACC-foe Miami on Saturday. They will play Maryland (Big Ten) or Saint Louis (Atlantic 10) on Sunday.
Providence is 16-15 all-time versus Miami, including 2-1 on neutral courts. The last time the two teams met, the Friars earned a 76-62 win over the Hurricanes on December 22, 2014 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. The Friars also have registered a 1-2 mark all-time versus Maryland and a 6-1 record against St. Louis.
The Friars have posted a 3-1 mark all-time in the Hall of Fame Tip Off at Mohegan Sun. In 2014, Providence defeated Florida State (80-54) and Notre Dame (75-74) to capture the title. In the team's most recent appearance in 2018, the Friars defeated South Carolina (76-67) before losing to Michigan (66-47) in the championship game.
