Providence College Men's Basketball Earns No. 4 Seed In NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament

Friars will face No. 13-seed South Dakota State in the NCAA First Round on March 17 in Buffalo, N.Y.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The No. 11/10 Providence College men's basketball team earned an at-large selection to the 2022 NCAA Tournament on Sunday night [March 13]. Providence is making its 21st appearance overall in the NCAA Tournament and first since 2018.

The Friars earned the No. 4-seed in the Midwest Region. The team is set to play No. 13-seed South Dakota State in the First Round on Thursday, March 17 at the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, N.Y. Game time and television/broadcast information has not yet been released.

The Friars and Jackrabbits will meet for the first time in the history of the two men's basketball programs. Providence's No. 4 seed is the highest in program history since the tournament expanded to 64 teams in 1985. The Friars' highest seed prior to this year's tournament was a No. 5 seed in 2015.

Providence enters the NCAA Tournament with a 25-5 overall record and a NET ranking of 33. The Friars' 25 victories are the most in a single season since 1986-87 (25-9). In the most recent national polls, released on March 7, the Friars were ranked No. 11 in the Associated Press Top-25 and No. 10 in the Coaches' Poll. Providence has been ranked in the national polls for 12-consecutive weeks and rose as high as No. 8/9 on Feb. 14 and No. 9/8 on Feb. 28.

The Friars finished 14-3 in league play and earned the program's first BIG EAST Regular-Season title. The program's 14 victories are the most all-time in league play.
