Day Three Results
EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – Providence College continued competition at the BIG EAST Swimming & Diving Championship for a third day on Friday, Feb. 25 at the Nassau County Aquatic Center in East Meadow, N.Y. The Friars had a busy day as the men's and women's programs combined to swim in 24 individual final events.
Kevin Hood, who won the 2021 BIG EAST title in the 100-yard breaststroke, nearly claimed his second-straight individual title in the event in 2022. On Friday night, Hood finished second to claim a silver medal, with a school-record time of 54.81. He was edged out by Xavier's Ethan Saunders by a very small margin (54.62).
Ryan Sharp captured a bronze medal with his third-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a school-record time of 49.05.
The men's 400-yard medley relay team of
Aidan Hughes, Hood, Sharp and Will Layden set another school record for the Friars, finishing fifth in the event with a time of 3:19.59.
On the women's side,
Sally Alrutz broke her own school record twice during both the prelims and finals of the 100-yard backstroke. In the finals, she finished sixth with a time of 55.56. Earlier in the prelims, she touched the wall in a time of 55.61.
The 400-yard medley relay team of Alrutz,
Hannah Weber,
Katherine Winklosky and
Taylor Loud combined to pull out a sixth-place finish with a time of 3:53.50.
Providence will conclude the BIG EAST Championships today [Saturday, Feb. 26].
