PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's basketball team defeated Manhattan College, 99-59, on Wednesday, Dec. 7 at the Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence, R.I. The Friars improved to 7-3 on the season and 6-0 at home. Tonight marked the Friars' first home game in 10 days. It was the Friars' first 40-point win since November 25, 2019 (PC 97, Fairfield 56). Sophomore Bryce Hopkins (Oak Park, Ill.) posted his third double-double of the season and his second in as many games, with a career-high 22 points and 11 rebounds. Graduate student Ed Croswell (Philadelphia, Pa.) added 15 points and six boards.
"Our energy and continuity were great for all 40 minutes tonight," Head Coach Ed Cooley said. "We were hoping to improve, and that's what this game was about."
FIRST HALF:
- After scoring the first basket of the game, Manhattan was held scoreless for the next four minutes of action.
- Croswell entered the scoring column first for the Friars. He scored six of the team's first seven points.
- At the 15:39 mark, Devin Carter (Miami, Fla.) knocked down the Friars' first three-pointer. Carter forced a turnover on the next possession and found Hopkins for the transition layup.
- The Friars extended their lead to 23-9 with an 11-0 scoring run.
- Hopkins spearheaded the team's offensive effort in the first half. He notched double figures for the third consecutive game with a three-ball at the 5:15 mark.
- At the final media timeout of the half, the Friars held a 46-26 lead.
- With 2:30 remaining in the half, Corey Floyd, Jr. (Franklin, N.J.) delivered a perfect pass to Hopkins, who drew contact in the paint and completed a three-point play. PC led 49-27.
- The Friars had a 21-point advantage, 53-32, heading into halftime.
- Providence shot 21-33 (63.6%) from the field, 4-10 (40.0%) from three and 7-11 (63.6%) from the free throw line.
- Manhattan shot 11-33 (33.3%) from the field, 6-12 (50.0%) from three and 4-8 (50.0%) from the free throw line.
SECOND HALF:
- Croswell had the first basket of the second half for the Friars. PC led 61-37 at the first timeout of the half.
- At the 14:31 mark, Jared Bynum (Largo, Md.) stole the ball and dished it to Carter on the fastbreak for the layup.
- Carter battled for his third steal and Jayden Pierre (Elizabeth, N.J.) made a reverse layup on the other end with 12:48 remaining. Alyn Breed (Powder Springs, Ga.) added a three-pointer on the next possession. PC led 75-42.
- Clifton Moore (Ambler, Pa.) sparked the offense throughout the second half for the Friars, becoming the fifth Friar to reach double figures.
- With three minutes left to play, the Friars held a 94-57 lead.
NOTES/HIGHLIGHTS:
- Providence finished 37-65 (56.9%) from the field, 7-17 (41.2%) from three and 18-25 (72.0%) from the free throw line.
- Manhattan finished 21-61 (34.4%) from the field, 10-27 (37.0%) from three and 7-11 (63.6%) from the free throw line.
- Five players finished in double figures for the Friars, in Hopkins (22), Croswell (15), Breed (12), Carter (12) and Moore (12).
- The Friars out-rebounded the Jaspers by a margin of 51-21. The team's 51 rebounds was a season-high.
- It marked the first time the Friars had 50 or more rebounds since they had 52 versus Texas on Dec. 21, 2019.
- The Friars' 24 assists and 13 steals were both season-highs.
- Bynum recorded a game-high eight assists. Carter and Croswell each had three steals.
- Samir Stewart led the way for the Jaspers with a team-high 17 points.
- The Friars played their first home game in 10 days.
- The Friars are 6-0 at home this season.
- The Friars have posted a 107-25 mark all-time versus teams from the MAAC.

- The Friars will take on UAlbany on Saturday, Dec. 10 at the Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence, R.I. Tip-off is set for 2:30 p.m. on FS1.
