PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Preseason All-BIG EAST selection
Janai Crooms was named to the league's weekly honor roll on Nov. 28. It marked the second-consecutive week that the Providence College senior guard earned conference recognition.
Crooms was named Most Outstanding Player of the Friar Thanksgiving Classic after averaging a double-double on 11.0 points, 13.0 rebounds in addition to 6.0 assists, 1.0 block and 1.0 steal per game. In three games, she shot .520 from the field (13-25). Twelve of her 27 total rebounds came off the offensive glass. On the final day of the tournament, Crooms was three assists shy of the program's first triple double, recording 19 points (8-13 FG), 13 rebounds and seven assists.
Through eight games overall this season, Crooms ranks 10
th in the BIG EAST in scoring (16.1 ppg), fifth in rebounding (8.8 rpg), fifth in assists (4.0 apg), sixth in field-goal percentage (.602, 53-88) and eighth in assist/turnover ratio (+1.6).
Crooms currently ranks 26
th on the Friars' all-time career scoring list (1,115 points), 10
th in career assists (370) and 24
th in rebounding (574).
Providence (6-2) opens BIG EAST Conference play against Connecticut on Friday, Dec. 2. The game will be played at Gampel Pavilion in Storrs, Conn. and is scheduled to tip at 7:00 p.m.
