Women's Hoops Defeats Weber State On Second Day Of Friar Thanksgiving Classic, 62-55

Kylee Sheppard and Olivia Olsen combined for 29 points; Janai Crooms hauled in 17 rebounds.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's basketball team defeated Weber State 62-55 on Nov. 26 during the second day of the Friar Thanksgiving Classic at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. Providence improved to 2-0 in the tournament and 5-2 overall on the season, while Weber State dropped to 2-3.
1ST QUARTER:
• Olivia Olsen scored the Friars' first seven points in the opening minute of play (7-0).
• Weber State responded with a 16-2 run to take a 16-9 lead with 3:51 on the clock, forcing a Friars timeout.
• The Wildcats got a defensive stop out of the break and scored in transition to extend their run to 18-2.
• Janai Crooms and Grace Efosa scored back-to-back buckets to halt a four-minute scoreless drought and get the Friars within five at the intermission (18-13).
• Olsen paced the Friars with nine points on 3-3 shooting, while the rest of the line-up hit just 2-12 from the field.
• Laura Taylor led Weber State with eight points.
2ND QUARTER:
• Providence cut the deficit to three on two occasions, but a 5-0 spurt gave Weber State a 25-17 advantage with 7:25 on the clock.
• A 9-0 run over a span of 4:42 helped Providence regain the lead (28-27) and force a Wildcats timeout with 1:36 to play.
• The Friars extended their run to 14-0 to close the quarter and take a 33-27 lead into halftime.
• Providence shot 47-percent from the field in the second frame (8-17), while holding Weber State scoreless for the final 6:26.
3RD QUARTER:
• Providence's run continued in the third (20-0) to mount a 39-27 advantage.
• Weber State ended its eleven-and-a-half minute scoring drought with an 8-0 run to get within four (39-35) with 5:37 on the clock.
• Olsen scored her first point since the first quarter with a free throw at 4:17 (40-35), giving her double figures for the third-straight game (10).
• Providence took a 45-41 lead into the fourth quarter.
4TH QUARTER:
• Brynn Farrell got the scoring going in the fourth with a triple from the right win and put the Friars ahead 48-41.
• Providence maintained its lead (50-45) at the media timeout with 5:44 left in regulation.
• Sheppard ended Providence's scoring drought of just over five minutes with a three to spark a 7-0 run and force a Weber State timeout with 1:33 on the clock.
• The run provided a 10-point cushion for the Friars (57-47).
• The Wildcats answered with a 6-1 spurt to get within five (58-53) with 21.5-seconds remaining.
• Providence hit 4-4 free throws in the final 20-seconds to seal the 62-55 victory.
NOTES:
• Sheppard finished the day with 15 points and three assists, while Olsen added 14 points, five rebounds and four blocked shots.
• Crooms narrowly missed a bid at a double-double with eight points and a season-high 17 rebounds. She also contributed five assists, two steals and one blocked shot.
• Farrell also finished the night with eight points and led the Friars in plus/minus (+21).
• The Friars won the glass with a 42-37 edge in rebounding.

• Providence will close the Friar Thanksgiving Classic with a match-up against Bryant on Sunday, Nov. 27. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. and will follow the first game of the afternoon between Hartford and Weber State (Noon).
