Men’s Basketball Falls To Saint Louis, 76-73, In Hall Of Fame Tip-off

UNCASVILLE, Conn. - The Providence College men's basketball team fell to Saint Louis, 76-73, on Sunday, Nov. 20 In the Hall of Fame Tip-off at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. Sophomore Bryce Hopkins (Oak Park, Ill.) led the way for the Friars with a career-high 20 points and nine rebounds. Redshirt senior Ed Croswell (Philadelphia, Pa.) added a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
FIRST HALF:
- Hopkins knocked down the first basket for the Friars after a scoreless opening two minutes.
- The Billikens held an 8-4 lead at the first media timeout.
- Croswell completed at three-point play to give the Friars a one point lead, 11-10.
- At the 10:50 mark, the Friars endured a scoring drought and St. Louis regained its lead by knocking down a three-pointer. The score was 18-16.
- Clifton Moore (Ambler, Pa.) ended the Friars three minute scoring drought by converting down low.
- With 4:02 minutes left in the half, Corey Floyd, Jr. (Franklin, N.J.) buried a three pointer to bring the Friars within one. PC trailed 26-25.
- Providence regained the lead by completing a five-point play. Devin Carter (Miami, Fla.) knocked down a three pointer and Croswell made two free-throws after being fouled on the rebound. PC led 30-28.
- At the half, PC led 36-30. There were five ties and five lead changes in the half.
- Providence shot 10-32 (31.3%) from the field, 3-8 (37.5%) from three and 13-13 (100%) from the free throw line.
- St. Louis shot 12-27 (44.4%) from the field, 2-8 (25%) from three and 4-5 (80%) from the free throw line.
SECOND HALF:
- The Friars went on a 5-0 run to open the half expanding their lead to double digits and forcing a St. Louis timeout. PC led 41-30.
- Hopkins gave the Friars their largest lead of the game by knocking down a three from the top of the key. PC led 47-34.
- At the first media timeout PC led 49-39.
- With 12:03 left, Carter ended the Friars three minute scoring drought with a drive to the hoop. PC led 53-45.
- St. Louis forced a Providence timeout by slimming the Providence lead to three with 8:11 remaining in the game.
- At the 6:05 mark, the Billikens tied the score at 60 a piece.
- With 3:07 remaining, Noah Locke (Baltimore, Md.) regained the lead for the Friars and buried a three-pointer. PC led 69-66.
- The Friars took a timeout with 26.8 seconds to go. St. Louis held a one-point lead after completing a three-point play, 74-73.
NOTES/HIGHLIGHTS:
- Providence finished 23-64 (35/9%) from the field, 7-20 (35.0%) from three and 20-20 (100%) from the free throw line.
- St. Louis finished 29-60 (48.3%) from the field, 3-15 (20.0%) from three and 15-17 (88.2%) from the free throw line.
- Four players finished in double figures for the Friars, in Hopkins (20), Croswell (11), Bynum (15) and Carter (10).
- Croswell snagged a game-high 10 rebounds.
- Yuri Collins led the way for St. Louis with 21 points and seven assists.
- There were 11 ties and eight lead changes in the game.
