PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College men's soccer graduate student
Ramzi Qawasmy (Lansdale, Pa.) and junior
Lukas Burns (Cinnaminson, N.J.) earned BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week and Goalkeeper of the Week, respectively, on Monday, Oct. 3.
Qawasmy scored the game-winning goal in the 73
rd minute against BIG EAST opponent, DePaul, in a 1-0 win on Saturday, Oct. 1 in Chicago, Ill. Qawasmy steered the Providence defense to its fourth shutout of the year and first conference win in the 2022 season. The Blue Demons were limited to just two shots on goal, with six shots overall. On the offensive end, the defender was called up late in the game and was able to convert on a penalty kick to win the match. This marks Qawasmy's second Weekly Honor nod in 2022, after earning BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll earlier in the season.
Burns posted his fourth complete shutout of the season with the 1-0 win over DePaul on Oct. 1. Burns saved both shots he faced to prevent the Blue Demons from finding the equalizer. After three conference games, Burns ranks third in the BIG EAST in save percentage, averaging .786, and is tied for second with 11 saves. Both athletes have played every minute of Providence's nine games so far this season.
The Friars return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 4 as they take on Connecticut at Joesph J. Morrone Stadium in Storrs, Conn.
