PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The USTFCCCA released the most recent Regional and National Coaches' Poll on Oct.18. The Providence College women's cross country team is ranked No.2 in the Northeast Region and No.18 in the nation. The men's team improves to the No.3 ranked team in the Northeast Region.
The Providence College men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Nuttycombe Invitational hosted by the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wis. on Oct. 15. The Friar women finished 15
th (511 points) out of 36 teams. The men finished 25
th (628 points) out of 36 teams. The meet consisted of 24 of the top-30 nationally ranked teams.
The women's side was led by freshman
Jane Buckley (Cork, Ireland). Buckley finished strong in the 38th spot with a time of 20:25.9. It marked her second collegiate race. Fellow Friars junior
Shannon Flockhart (Longstanton, England) and sophomore
Kimberley May (Auckland, New Zealand) held competitive positions for the duration of the race. Flockhart had a 79th-place finish (20:44.5), while May crossed the line in the 109th position with a time of 20:57.3 time. Freshman Niamh O'Mahony (Kerry, Ireland) and senior
Lilly Tuck (Sunderland, Canada) rounded out the top-five, finishing 132nd (21:04.7) and 153rd (21:15.7), respectively. A total of 263 runners finished the race.
For the men, the Friars were led by a 59th-place finish (23:49.7) by graduate student
Marcelo Rocha (Peabody, Mass.). Junior
Shane Coffey (Naas, Ireland) and junior
Pat Thygesen (Brisbane, Australia) finished the Nuttycombe Invitational 123rd (24:13.1) and 138th (24:20.1), respectively. Rounding out the Friars' top five were sophomore
Michael Morgan (Sligo, Ireland) in 143rd (24:21.9) and junior
Liam Back (New Plymouth, New Zealand) in 165th place (24:32.2). There was a total of 239 runners to finish the race.
