PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The U.S. Track & Field And Cross Country Coaches Association released its academic awards Thursday, Jan. 27. The Providence College men's and women's cross country programs each earned 2021 USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Academic Team Awards. Five Friars also were recognized individually as USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honorees.
In order to be in considered, a program must have at least a 3.00 cumulative team GPA. The men's cross country program posted a 3.49 team GPA and the women's program checked in with a 3.5 team GPA.
Individually, graduate students
Marcelo Rocha (Peabody, Mass.) and
AJ Ernst (Marblehead, Mass.) and sophomore
Liam Back (New Plymouth, New Zealand) each claimed USTFCCCA All-Academic Team accolades as members of the Providence College men's cross country team.
The Providence College women's cross country team included two honorees, graduate student
Maria Coffin (Annapolis, Md.) and sophomore
Shannon Flockhart (Longstanton, England).
To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards:
