Hjalmarsson Selected to Sweden Women’s Olympic Team

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College women's ice hockey senior Sara Hjalmarsson (Bankeryd, Sweden) has been named to the Sweden Olympic Women's Ice Hockey Team for the 2022 Beijing Olympics.
Having previously represented Sweden in the 2018 Winter Games in PyeongChang, Hjalmarsson will be making the second Olympic appearance of her hockey career. Hjalmarsson is the 11th player in program history to compete in the Olympics and is one of only six Friars to appear in multiple Olympic games.
In November, Hjalmarsson helped Team Sweden secure their spot in Beijing, as they won the IIHF Group E Olympic qualifying pool. Hjalmarsson finished tied for first in her qualifying group in points (six).
Team Sweden opens Olympic action against Japan at 4:40 p.m. local time in Beijing (3:40 a.m. Eastern) on Thursday, Feb. 3. Sweden will face Czech Republic on Saturday, Feb. 5 at 9:10 p.m. local time (8:10 a.m. Eastern) and against host China on Monday, Feb. 7 at 9:10 p.m. local (8:10 a.m. Eastern) before closing the preliminary round against Denmark on Tuesday, Feb. 8 at 9:10 p.m. local (8:10 a.m. Eastern).
NBC is the television home of the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in the United State and a full broadcast schedule will be released close to the start of the Games.
In addition to Hjalmarsson's Olympic selection by Team Sweden, the Providence College women's hockey program also will be represented in the 2022 Beijing Games by Associate Head Coach Ali Domenico, who was selected as an Assistant Coach for Team Canada.
