Men's Soccer's Paulo Lima Selected In 2022 MLS SuperDraft

Lima was selected 32nd overall by the Houston Dynamo FC.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College senior midfielder Paulo Lima (Lisbon, Portugal) was selected in the 2022 Major League Soccer (MLS) SuperDraft on Tuesday, Jan. 11. Lima was drafted 32nd overall in the second round by the Houston Dynamo FC.
During the Friars' 2021 campaign, Lima recorded 12 points on four goals and four assists. He entered the year as a Preseason All-BIG EAST selection and went on to earn All-BIG EAST First Team recognition in addition to United Soccer Coaches All-East Region Second Team accolades.
For his career, Lima started 50 games in the midfield at Providence and recorded 32 career points on 13 goals and six assists. Six of his 13 goals were game winners.
Lima guided the Friars to a 12-5-4 overall record in 2021, including a 5-2-3 mark in the BIG EAST. The team qualified for the BIG EAST Tournament for the 20th time in program history and advanced to the BIG EAST Championship Game for the sixth time. Providence also earned its 11th NCAA Tournament berth in program history and advanced to the Third Round for the fourth time. The Friars were inside the top-25 of the United Soccer Coaches Poll for eight-consecutive weeks to close the regular-season schedule. Providence was ranked 16th in the final 2021 poll, released on Dec. 14.
In December, Lima was one of 44 players selected to participate in the MLS College Showcase, held in Cary, N.C. during the College Cup.
