Friars take down the nationally-ranked Pirates in the BIG EAST opener.

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Providence College men's soccer team defeated No. 19 Seton Hall, 3-2, in the 2021 BIG EAST opener on Saturday, September 18 in South Orange, N.J. Sophomore forward Brendan McSorley (Randolph, N.J.), Davis Smith (Amherst, Mass.) and Paulo Lima (Lisbon, Portugal) each scored for the Friars.

  • Seton Hall opened the scoring in the match with a goal from JP Martin at the 27:20 mark.
  • The Friars outshot the Pirates 7-3 in the first half and took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
  • Davis Smith opened the scoring for the Friars in the second half at 58:46, assisted by Luis Garcia. (Gran Canaria, Spain).
  • Mattias Sundell helped the Pirates regain the lead in the 70th minute.
