PROVIDENCE, R.I. – This Saturday, May 8, the Providence College women's hockey team welcomed a new addition to the team, Lily. The team collaborated with Team IMPACT, a non-profit organization, whose mission strives to improve the quality of life for children facing serious and chronic illnesses through the power of team to welcome Lily to the Friar family.
Lily is a 15 year-old from Cranston, R.I. who was matched with the team last fall. Since October, Lily has been keeping up with and encouraging the team through Zoom calls twice a month. Lily was welcomed by Friars Head Coach
Matt Kelly and the rest of the team in a Zoom press conference from Schneider Arena.
"You were a bright spot in this year. We went through some ups and downs but the videos you sent kept us plugging along, and kept us motivated to keep winning games." Head Coach
Matt Kelly said. "We are so happy to have you apart of our family."
Junior
Ciara Barone (North Tonawanda, N.Y.), a member of Team IMPACT leadership group, explained, "Today is your big day, and we are so happy that we get to share it with you. Although we faced a number of challenges this year, having Zoom calls with you put smiles on our faces during the hardest of times."
The 15-year-old described being a part of the team as a, "very life-changing, amazing experience". Lily will continue to meet with the team on Zoom over the summer, and is looking forward to meeting the team on campus next fall.
