Providence, R.I.- Providence College women's soccer alum Catherine Zimmerman '16 and her team, Melbourne Victory, won the Westfield W-League Championship, 1-0, over Sydney FC on April 11.
The third-seeded Victory defeated the second-seeded Brisbane Roar, 6-2, in the semi-finals on April 4. Zimmerman played 83 minutes and scored a goal against Brisbane. Melbourne defeated the first-seed Sydney FC, 1-0, in the championship. Zimmerman played all ninety minutes at forward for the Victory in the final.
Zimmerman played in 10 games for the Victory, including eight appearances in the starting lineup. Zimmerman recorded 13 points on six goals and one assist at forward.
"We faced a lot of challenges on and off the field this season which made winning the Grand Final that much sweeter," Zimmerman said. "This team was very special so we deserved to be rewarded and bring the trophy home to Melbourne."
Zimmerman is a 2016 graduate of Providence College and was a three-time All-BIG EAST selection for the women's soccer program. She became the first player in program history to earn All-BIG EAST First-Team recognition in 2014 and made a repeat appearance on the First Team in her final season (2015). She helped guide the Friars to back-to-back appearances in the BIG EAST Tournament, including an appearance in the championship game during the 2016 season. To date, Zimmerman ranks fourth all-time in career points at Providence College (58) on 25 goals and eight assists.
