PROVIDENCE, R.I.- Claire Tyo (Massena, N.Y.) of the Providence College women's ice hockey team was named the Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Month for January.
Tyo racked up four points for the month on two goals and two assists, leading all Hockey East rookies for the month. She factored in on both game-winning goals in the Friar's weekend sweep of Merrimack (Jan. 15 & Jan. 17) and held a 3-game point streak (2 goals, 2 assists). In game one on Friday night in Schneider Arena, she was credited with the primary assist on Providence's game-winning goal scored by
Sara Hjalmarsson (Bankeryd, Sweden). The Friars went on to win with a 3-0 shutout on home ice. Tyo scored the game-winning goal the following day after putting Providence up 3-2 with 10:44 left in regulation.

She now has three goals on the season alongside six assists for nine points. Â
