PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) announced its All-New England team selections on Wednesday, Dec. 8. Fifth-year
Amber Birchwell (Mastic, N.Y.) and sophomore
Meg Hughes (Rochester, Mass.) were named to the All-New England First Team. Sophomore
Avery Snead (Wrentham, Mass.) earned All-New England Second Team honors.
Birchwell was the second leading scorer for the Friars this season. She started all 20 games for Providence scoring 13 points on four goals and five assists. She concluded her career as the program's ninth leading scorer all-time, with 47 points.
Hughes, an All-BIG EAST First Team member, tallied a team-high nine goals and tied the team for second with four assists this season (22 points). She started all 20 games for the Friars and recorded a team-high 75 shots. Hughes was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week two times this season. Prior to the start of the season, Hughes was named to the All-BIG EAST Preseason Team. Hughes was also named to the United Soccer Coaches All-East Region Second Team along with teammate
Alexis Rothmann (Norwell, Mass.).
Snead, an All-BIG EAST Second Team member, started all 20 games for the Friars. She played a critical role in the back line for Providence tallying over 1,800 minutes. Snead recorded four points on two goals, including a game-tying goal against BIG EAST foe UConn on Oct. 21. Additionally, she was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, twice.
