Janai Crooms flirts with a triple-double on 25 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's basketball team defeated Hartford, 73-62, on Dec. 1 in Providence, R.I. Junior guard Janai Crooms flirted with a triple-double in the win, finishing the night with 25 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists. 
 
1ST QUARTER:
• Hartford got out to a 13-6 lead with the help of a 3-5 shooting performance from beyond the three-point arc. 
• Crooms scored back-to-back buckets to get the Friars within three (13-10) with 3:33 on the clock.
• The Hawks sank three free throws after being fouled behind the arc to make it a 16-10 game, but Providence closed out the quarter with six-straight points to tie the game, 16-16.
• Crooms scored eight points in the opening frame, while Emily Archibald added six points.
 
2ND QUARTER:
• The Friars took their first lead of the night on a hard drive to the hoop by Crooms with 7:40 on the clock (20-18).
• Providence held 25-21 advantage at the media timeout (4:51), with Crooms already into double figures with 12 points.
• The Friars gained a 29-21 advantage as Hartford went scoreless for more than four minutes.
• At halftime, Providence held a 32-24 lead.
 
3RD QUARTER:
• A 6-0 run start the quarter gave Providence a 38-24 lead with 6:32 on the clock.
• Providence outscored Hartford 20-15 overall in the quarter to take a 52-39 advantage into the final 10 minutes of action. 
 
4TH QUARTER:
• The Friars took a 17-point lead (62-45), marking their largest of the game, with 5:25 left in the game.
• Hartford used an 10-0 run midway through the fourth to get within seven (62-55) with 2:38 to play.
Alyssa Geary hit her second three-pointer of the game with 2:19 on the clock to halt the run and regain a double-digit lead for the Friars (65-55).
• Hartford outscored Providence 23-21 in the fourth.
 
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• Crooms scored a season-high 25 points and added 11 rebounds and eight assists. 
• It marked the first 20-point game as a Friar and third of her career. Crooms also recorded her third double-double of the season and fifth of her career.
• Crooms was an impressive 7-9 from the field and 11-13 from the charity stripe.
• Archibald scored 18 points for the Friars on 7-12 shooting from the field and added three assists and two steals.
• Geary, who was saddled with foul trouble, scored all 12 of her points in the fourth quarter.
• Geary has hit for double figures in the scoring column in each of the last six games.
• Providence was 13-13 from the free throw line in the first half and hit its first 15 attempts in the game.
• The Friars finished the game 23-28 from the foul line.
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
• The Friars will open BIG EAST Conference play this weekend with a pair of home games against Villanova (Dec. 3) and Georgetown (Dec. 5). Both games will be played at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium and will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network via FloSports.
