Paulo Lima, Ramzi Qawasmy, Gevork Diarbian, Luis Garcia, Davis Smith and Malcolm Duncan were each honored by the league.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The BIG EAST Conference announced today (Nov. 8) that six Providence College men's soccer players earned All-BIG EAST honors. It marks the first time in the history of the program that the Friars have earned six All-BIG EAST accolades in a single season. The previous mark was five players which was established in 2014. Senior midfielder Paulo Lima (Lisbon, Portugal) and senior defender Ramzi Qawasmy (Lansdale, Pa) each earned All-BIG EAST First Team accolades. Sophomore forward Gevork Diarbian (Cranston, R.I.) and junior midfielder Luis Garcia (Gran Canaria, Spain) each were named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team. Graduate student forward Davis Smith (Amherst, Mass.) and graduate student defender Malcolm Duncan (Toronto, Ontario) received All-BIG EAST Third Team honors.
Lima earned All-BIG EAST honors for the third time in his career with the Friars. In 2019, he received Second Team honors and last season the midfielder was named to the First Team. This season, he ranks fourth on the team in scoring (11 points). He also is tied for third in goals with four.
Qawasmy also earned All-BIG EAST accolades last season when he was named to the Second Team. This season, he has scored one goal and added one assist. He has helped anchor the defense that has posted five shutouts this season.
Diarbian was named to the All-BIG EAST Third Team last season. The sophomore forward has played in all 16 games. He ranks fifth on the team in scoring with eight points. He has recorded two goals and four assists. Diarbian leads the team in shots, with 35.
Garcia earned All-BIG EAST Third Team recognition in 2020-21. In 16 games this season, the junior midfielder is tied for the team lead in scoring (14 points). He is second on the team in goals (five) and shots (32).
Smith is third on the team in scoring (12 points) and he ranks tied for third on the team in goals (four). He also is tied for second on the team in assists with four.
Duncan has played in all 16 games this season. He has been one of the leaders on the team's defense throughout his career. The Friar defense ranked fourth overall in the league in goals allowed at 1.12 per game.
The Friars (9-3-4/5-2-3) finished the regular season in second place (18 points) and earned a bye in the first round of the BIG EAST Tournament. It marks the Friars' best finish in the BIG EAST regular season since finishing first in 2016. The Friars will play Butler at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 11 at Georgetown in the BIG EAST Semifinals. The BIG EAST Championship game will be at Georgetown on Sunday, Nov. 14 at noon on FS2.
