Women’s Hockey Game Notes vs. No. 5 Northeastern

Puck Drop
The Friars will play a home-and-home series with the No. 5 Northeastern Huskies this weekend. First, the teams face-off at Schneider Area on Friday (Nov. 5) at 6:00 p.m. The second game of the series will be played at Matthews Arena in Boston, Mass. on Saturday (Nov. 6), at 2:00 p.m.
 
Scouting the Friars
Last weekend, the Friars hosted the Boston University Terriers for a single Hockey East match-up. The Friars fell the, 2-1, at Schneider Arena. The Terriers netted two first period goals and both teams skated through the second period scoreless. Sara Hjalmarsson (Bankeyrd, Sweden) got the Friars on the board in the third period but Providence was unable to find the equalizer before the final buzzer. Providence holds a 3-2-2 overall record and a 2-1-0 mark in the Hockey East.
 
Scouting the Huskies
The Huskies enter the weekend with a 7-2-0 record. Last weekend, Northeastern swept the series with No. 4/5 Boston College. In the most recent USCHO Women's Poll, Northeastern slotted in at the No. 5 spot.
 
When the Huskies and Friars met in the first match-up of the season (Oct. 9), Providence shutout Northeastern, 3-0. Brooke Becker (Orchard Park, N.Y.), Lindsay Bochna (Toronto, Ontario), and Ciara Barone (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) each netted a goal against the then ranked No. 2 team.
 
Northeastern finished the 2020-21 season with a 22-2-1 overall record and a 17-1-1 mark in the Hockey East Conference, ranking No. 1 in the conference and No. 2 in the nation. Northeastern competed in the NCAA Championship game versus No. 1 Wisconsin, losing in overtime, 1-2.
 
Who to Watch
Currently Marueen Murphy leads the team in points (12) with seven goals and five assists. Murphy is followed by Chloe Aurard and Maddie Mills who have netted nine and seven points, respectively.

Skylar Fontaine and Aerin Frankel lead the Huskies defensively and were received Hockey East monthly awards for the first month of play in the 2021-22 season. Fontaine earned Hockey East Defender of the Month as she was tied for the highest-scoring defender in the conference over the first month of play with one goal and six assists. Frankel earned Hockey East Goaltender of the Month and ranks third in the nation in goals against average (0.88) and totals wins (6), and fourth in save percentage (.961).

All-Time Series with the Huskies
Providence leads all-Time over the Huskies, 68-65-11.  Providence holds a  32-30-2 winning record at Northeastern while the Huskies hold a 28-24-8 record while playing at Providence. In the teams last match-up, Providence blanked Northeastern, 0-3.
