Providence College Falls To No.3-Seed Georgetown In NCAA Third Round

Friars conclude their season with a 12-5-4 overall record.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Providence College men's soccer team fell to No. 3-seed Georgetown, 4-1, in the NCAA Tournament Third Round.

GAME FLOW 
• The first shot attempt of the game did not come until the 33rd minute off the foot of Providence's Brendan McSorley. His attempt was wide left of the net. 
• The Hoyas took a 1-0 lead in the 36th minute as Dante Polvara picked up a loose ball in the box off a free kick. The goal was assisted by Marlon Tabora. 
• With under a minute to play, Georgetown was denied an insurance goal as Lukas Burns made a diving save to his right off a free kick by Polvara. 
• The Hoyas held a 4-2 edge in shots and a 1-0 advantage in corner kicks in the opening half. 
• Georgetown took a 2-0 lead in the 53rd minute as Stefan Stojanovic crossed in a ball to Marlon Tabora behind Burns at the far post. Tabora redirected the feed into the goal cage. 
• Tabora put home a rebound in the 58th minute for his second goal of the afternoon to provide a three-goal cushion. 
• Tabora completed the hat trick in the 64th minute as he touched in a ball at the right post from Aidan Rocha and Kyle Linhares. 
Christopher Roman had the Friars' first good scoring opportunity of the game in the 68th minute, but Giannis Nikopolidis saved Roman's one-timer at the right post. 
• McSorley got the Friars on the board to avoid the shutout in the 88th minute of play. Miguel Candela and Gevork Diarbian were credited with assists on the play. 
 
NOTES 
• Providence, who advanced to the NCAA Round of 16 for the fourth time in program history concludes its season with a 12-5-4 overall record. 
• McSorley finished the season with a team-best 21 points on nine goals and three assists. 
• Diarbian earned his fifth assist of the year, while Candela collected his second of the year. 
• Burns registered four saves in goal for the Friars, while Nikopolidis also made four saves for the Hoyas.
