GAME FLOW & NOTES
Maine took a 1-0 lead 2:22 into the opening period with a goal from Taylor Leech.
The Friars held a slight 16-15 edge in shots through the opening period but were unable to get on the board, entering the first intermission trailing 0-1.
Caroline Peterson (East Falmouth, Mass.) evened the playing field for Providence, 1-1, with a goal 35 seconds into period two. Peterson was assisted by
Sara Hjalmarsson (Bankeryd, Sweden) and
Hayley Lunny (Bedford, N.Y.).
Maine scored two goals both in the final five minutes of period two, from Jennifer Costa and Mia Seregely, to take a 3-1 lead into the second intermission.
The third period was scoreless for both teams until the final minute when
Lindsay Bochna (Toronto, Ontario) netted one for the Friars in the final 26 seconds of play. Bochna was assisted by
Claire Tyo (Massena, N.Y.) and Lunny on the play.
The Friars rally came too late as they were not able to find the equalizer in the final 26 seconds of regulation.
Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) made 19 saves in net for a .864 save percentage.
