Friar basketball legend Jamel Thomas joins an episode of the Inside Friartown podcast.

Friars.com correspondent Mike DeMars spoke with Friar basketball legend Jamel Thomas:

Jamel Thomas, from Brooklyn, N.Y. and Lincoln High School, arrived at Providence College in 1995 with a recruiting class that that included God Shammgod, Derrick Brown and Ruben Garces.  By the time Thomas left Providence, he firmly established himself as one of the Friar Greats. The 2019 Providence College Athletic Hall of Fame Inductee, ranks sixth all-time in scoring with 1,971 points.  As a sophomore, Thomas helped lead the Friars to the Elite Eight, and his corner jumper against Arizona in the Regional finals sent the game into overtime. He earned Second Team All-BIG EAST honors as a junior, and then moved up to First Team honors as a senior.  He led the team in scoring as a junior (18.5 ppg) and as a senior (22.0 ppg).  As a senior, he averaged 22 points and 7.2 rebounds per game.  He also earned First Team All-ECAC, Sporting News Honorable Mention All-America honors, First Team NABC District I, and USBWA First Team All-District I in 1999.  He scored a career-high 38 points in an overtime win at Villanova. The athletic swingman played parts of two seasons in the NBA.  Thomas wrote a book about his life titled The Beautiful Struggle, which was released by Xlibris in late September 2008. On June 16, 2020, he released his own clothing line, Jamel.  A portion of the proceeds will be used to help to benefit orphans and underprivileged youths.
