BOSTON, Mass.- On Dec. 20, members of the Providence College lacrosse team traveled to Boston for the program's annual networking day. Rotating on an annual basis from New York to Boston, student-athletes have used this platform to develop relationships and launch their careers.
The day started at Colliers International, where Co-Chairman Kevin Phelan '66 presented on his career path and the evolution of the real estate industry.
From there, the team traveled to Income Research & Management, where Director of Business Operations Matt Conroy '92 was joined by CEO Bill O'Malley and Director of Client Service Molly Manning. Together they gave a behind-the-scenes look at the fixed income industry and the importance of teamwork and culture in their organization.
Staying in the financial sector, the next stop was the board room at Wellington Management, where the team was treated to a panel presentation from Fixed Income Product Analyst Andrew Bayerl '07, Managing Director Jon Conant '95, Managing Director of Investment Guideline Monitoring Terry Hines '01, Managing Director and Director of Macro Trading Chris Kamm '97, Municipal Bond Trader Kelli O'Donohue '11 and Portfolio Manager Mike Stack 'P14. The interactive presentation provided real examples of resumes that resulted in job offers and provided advice on how to position oneself in the ultracompetitive finance industry.
Up next, the team was treated to lunch at the Granary Tavern thanks to Michael Glynn '87. During lunch the team had the opportunity to hear from State Street VP of Transformation Henry Pynchon '07. Pynchon has spent the last 10 years working abroad in China and London before returning to Boston. He spoke to the team about taking advantage of opportunities during the early stages of their careers.
The team then headed to TD Garden for a VIP courtside tour and panel presentation by the President of the Boston Celtics Rich Gotham '86, Vice President of Corporate Partnerships Chris Johnson, the President of TD Garden Amy Latimer 'P23 and Vice President of Facilities Andrew MacFadyen. Together the speakers showcased the inner workings of professional sports and entertainment and the leadership necessary for many organizations to work together as a cohesive unit.
The team traveled to Converse next, where they were hosted by Senior Financial Analyst Ted Bancroft '14, Manager of Business Planning Tim Malcolm '98 and Finance Manager Mike Sarmanian. This was a particularly interesting visit for the team because they could see the strategy behind many of the products that they see advertised and worn around the world. Converse is a subsidiary of Nike, which has been an incredible partner for Friar athletics.
The final stop of the day was a networking reception at the Sports Grille, hosted by Michael Glynn '87. Here the team had a chance to meet alumni and friends of the program including: Copley Equity Partners Matt DiFrancesco '12, Interpak Frank Duffy '83, Meghan K. Duffy Memorial Foundation Colleen Duffy '83, Volition Capital
Austin Goltz '17, New Balance Garrett Kanter '10, Silvercrest Asset Management Todd Kanter, Lighthouse Computer Services John McCavanagh '95, Onepath Pete Peterson '86, Procacciani Co.

"The strength of the Friar Family was on full display today as our alumni, parents and friends opened their doors to give our team an inside track at internships and careers at their companies. The advice that our team received today will position them to reach their career goals and be successful long after their lacrosse careers come to an end. I want to sincerely thank everyone who played a part in making the day such a memorable experience for our student-athletes", said Head Coach
Chris Gabrielli.
