DURHAM, N.H. – The Providence College women's hockey team defeated the University of New Hampshire, 2-1, on Saturday, Jan. 18 in Durham, N.H.
Caroline Peterson (East Falmouth, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal with 2:15 remaining on a one-timer in front of the crease. Providence improves to 13-9-2 on the season and 10-7-0 in the conference.

-The teams skated to a scoreless first period of play, the Wildcats failed to convert in the lone power play chance of the first 20 minutes.
- Providence trailed in shots, 14-7, at the conclusion of the opening period.
Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) stood strong in net picking up 14 saves.
- The Friars got on the board first on
Sara Hjalmarsson's (Bankeryd, Sweden) 13
th goal of the season and second goal in as many days.
Avery Fransoo (North Battleford, Saskatchewan) passed the puck through the neutral zone that Hjalmarsson skated onto and finished a wrist shot to the bottom left corner.
Chloe Gonsalves (Toronto, Ontario) was credited with the secondary assist for her sixth of the season.
- New Hampshire led the game in shots through two periods, 22-18. Providence entered the third period 0-2 on the power play compared to New Hampshire's 0-3 mark.
-The Wildcats evened the game at 1-1 just 3:01 into the third period. Jada Christian fired a wrist shot from the bottom of the right circle that snuck past Abstreiter.
- Providence sealed the 2-1 victory on Peterson's game-winning goal with 2:15 remaining.
Ciara Barone (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) gathered the puck behind the net before feeding
Neve Van Pelt (Mitchell, Ontario) in front of the crease, Van Pelt put a one-timer on net that Peterson re-directed in. The goal marked Peterson's first goal of the season, while Barone earned her second assist of the season and Van Pelt picked up her fourth assist of the year.
- Abstreiter improves to 5-4-0 on the season after stopping 32-33 shots to match her career-high she set yesterday against the Wildcats.
