PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College alumna Cammi Granato was named the first female scout for an NHL franchise on Wednesday, Sept. 25. Granato was hired as a pro scout for Seattle's new NHL franchise, scheduled to enter the league for the 2021-22 season. She played at Providence College from 1989-1993, she leads the program in points (256), goals (139) and remains second in assists (117).
"When I took the job, I was encouraged to continue that mantra: think outside the box. Cammi's name came up. I know she's a female pro scout for us, but her résumé is why she got the job -- not because she's female," GM Ron Francis said.
Granato captained Team USA to a gold medal at the 1998 Winter Olympics, the first winter Olympics to include women's hockey. She was inducted into the International Hockey Hall of Fame (2008), the US Hockey Hall of Fame (2009), as well as the Hockey Hall of Fame (2010).
