PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College's
Shelby Hogan (Franklin, Mass.) and
Elayna Grillakis (Lowell, Mass.) highlighted the BIG EAST Weekly Awards on Monday, Sept. 23. Hogan nabbed the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week for the first time this season, while Grillakis was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week. Grillakis was also named to the honorable mention on the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week.
Hogan recorded a 2-0 record on the week after prevailing in two overtime victories last week. She totaled 13 saves, a .929 save percentage and 0.46 goals against average. The redshirt-junior made seven saves to blank the Texas Longhorns on Sept. 19 (1-0). The shutout marked her third clean sheet of the season. She followed that performance with six saves after facing 10 shots. Hogan enters the Friars' BIG EAST schedule leading the conference in save percentage (.878), and second in goals against average (0.63).
Grillakis came up clutch with two of the team's three goals in the Friars' victories this week. She scored the 98
th minute golden goal in the team's 1-0 win at Texas on Thursday before scoring the second-half equalizer against Northeastern on Sunday to send the game to overtime. Grillakis tallied five shots last week, including three on frame.
Providence matches up against St. John's in the team's BIG EAST opener on Saturday, Sept. 28 in Providence, R.I. at 6:00 p.m.
