The 18-game slate includes match-ups against four programs who qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 2018.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College women's soccer Head Coach Sam Lopes released the team's 2019 fall schedule today (June 3). The 18-game slate includes match-ups against four programs who qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 2018 and five teams who finished inside the top-50 in the NCAA RPI at the conclusion of the season (Dec. 2).

The Friars will open the 2019 schedule with three home games on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I. against regional foes UConn (Aug. 22), UMass (Aug. 25) and Hartford (Aug. 29). Providence dominated on home turf last season, posting an 8-1 record.

Four of Providence's next five matches are scheduled to be played on the road, beginning with a match-up against Rutgers in Piscataway, N.J. on Sept. 1. The last contest between these two programs ended in a 1-1 draw on August 21, 2016. Katie Day knotted the game at one goal apiece scoring on a penalty kick in the 82nd minute. Rutgers was ranked No. 10 in the country at the time.

Providence will host UMass Lowell for a lone home contest on Sept. 5 before hitting the road for a grueling three-game road trip, which includes two NCAA Tournament teams from last season, Boston College (Sept. 12) and Texas (Sept. 19). Boston College, who finished the year ranked No. 28 in the NCAA RPI, received a top-16 seed in the NCAA Tournament but was upset by Hofstra in the first round, 4-1. Texas ended the season ranked No. 20 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll and also earned a top-16 seed but was upended by Virginia Tech in the first round, 1-0. The Friars will face their cross-town rival, Brown, in between the two matches on Sept. 15.

The Friars will return home to conclude their non-conference portion of the schedule against Northeastern on Sept. 22.

Providence opens BIG EAST Conference play at home against St. John's on Sept. 28. Last season, the Friars and Red Storm played to a scoreless draw on Oct. 4 before the rematch in the BIG EAST Quarterfinal when Providence prevailed, 1-0, courtesy of an Amber Birchwell goal in the 31st minute.

On Oct. 3, Providence will travel to Milwaukee, Wisc. to play the Marquette Golden Eagles. The Friars earned their first win against Marquette on Oct. 8, 2017 and now hold a two-game winning streak after defeating Marquette, 1-0, on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium last season.

Providence's BIG EAST slate will continue at home when they play host to Georgetown (Oct. 6) and DePaul (Oct. 10). Georgetown completed the three-peat last season as they defeated Butler, 1-0, in the BIG EAST Championship for its third title in as many years. The Hoyas advanced to the semifinals of the 2018 Women's College Cup before falling to North Carolina in double overtime, 1-0. The Friars' last 13 matchups against the Hoyas have been decided by one goal or less. In 2017, Providence upset No. 15 Georgetown on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium, 1-0, with the lone goal coming in the sixth minute by Christina Klaum.

Xavier and Creighton will be the next destinations for the Friars as they will play the Musketeers on Oct. 13 in Cincinnati, Ohio and the Bluejays on Oct. 19 in Omaha, Neb.

Providence will return home for its two final home games against Butler (Oct. 24) and Villanova (Oct. 27) before wrapping up conference play against Seton Hall in Orange, N.J. on Oct. 31. The Friars dropped two games to Butler during the 2018 campaign. The Friars matched up against the Bulldogs in the BIG EAST Semifinal and attempted a late comeback with a goal to bring them within one in the 88th minute, 3-2, but failed to score the equalizer. Butler ended the season ranked No. 37 in the NCAA RPI.

The BIG EAST saw two teams finish inside the top-50 of the NCAA RPI alongside Providence (No. 47). Georgetown led the group at No. 3, followed by Butler at No. 37.

Providence completed the 2018 season with an 11-6-3 overall record, including a 4-3-2 mark during BIG EAST action, and finished tied for third in the BIG EAST standings for the No. 6 seed in the BIG EAST Tournament.
