The Friars outshot the Huskies 34-18, but fell by a score of 3-2.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's hockey team fell to the No. 3 Northeastern University Huskies, 3-2, in the Hockey East Semifinal on Saturday, March 9 at Schneider Arena.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
- Providence jumped out to a quick lead, as Christina Putigna (Grimsby, Ontario) scored her 15th goal of the season just 18 seconds in.
- Avery Fransoo (North Battleford, Saskatchewan) played the puck up the boards to Putigna who skated in and fired a wrist shot through a defenseman and past Aerin Frankel.
- Fransoo's assist was her 16th of the year.
- Northeastern responded with a goal at the 1:52 mark of the first. Chloe Aurard caused a turnover and knocked the puck to Alina Mueller, who beat Madison Myers (Colchester, Vt.) high, blocker side. With the goal, Mueller reached 50 points on the season.
- The Huskies took the lead 8:47 into the second. Matti Hartman scored her sixth goal of the season on a 2-on-1 rush.
- This time, it was the Friars who responded. Kate Friesen (Altona, Manitoba) blasted a one-timer past Frankel at the end of a power play to tie the game at 2-2. Her seventh goal of the season was assisted by Fransoo and Putigna, who each earned their second points of the game.
- Northeastern was able to take the lead once again with less than three minutes to play in the period. Brooke Hobson's shot was blocked by Friesen, but Aurard was there to fire home the rebound to make it 3-2.
- Through two periods, Providence outshot Northeastern, 26-13.
- Providence had eight shots in the final period, but could not find a game-tying goal. The Friars ended up holding a 34-18 edge in shots on the afternoon.
- Myers finished with 15 saves, five in each period.
- Frankel made 32 saves at the other end for Northeastern.
- Providence concludes the 2018-19 season with a 24-11-2 record. The 24 wins ties the program high, set in 2002-03.
