- Providence held an 11-9 shot advantage in the second period, but it was the Black Bears who notched the lone goal as Brendan Robbins capitalized on a turnover and scored shorthanded on a breakaway with under a minute to go in the period to put Maine up 2-1.
- Bryan Lemos nearly tied things up in the opening minutes of the third period as a puck found him wide open with an open net but the puck wouldn't settle for him before the Swayman and the Maine defense recovered.
- Mitchell Fossier sealed the game with an empty net goal with just 55.5 seconds remaining.
- Providence's 15-game winning streak and 19-game unbeaten streak against the Black Bears was snapped. It was Maine's first win over the Friars since October of 2011.
