Christina Putigna scored a goal and an assist, reaching the 100-career point mark.

ORONO, Maine – The Providence College women's hockey team defeated the University of Maine, 2-1, on Friday, Feb. 8 at Alfond Arena.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
- Meaghan Rickard (Coventry, R.I.) got the Friars on the board at the 5:37 mark of the first period. She scored on the power play to push her season total to five goals.
- Christina Putigna (Grimsby, Ontario) assisted the goal, becoming the 27th player in program history to reach the 100-point mark. Avery Fransoo (North Battleford, Saskatchewan) picked up the secondary assist. She has 12 helpers on the year.
- Providence outshot Maine 11-7 in the first period but the Black Bears held a 7-5 edge in the second.
- Leading-point scorer Celine Tedenby scored for Maine just 3:12 into the second. Her goal, which was assisted by Vendula Pribylova, tied the game at 1-1.
- Maine had a power play in each period but went 0-for-3 on the afternoon. During the third-period chance, the Friars scored a short-handed goal.
- Maureen Murphy (Buffalo, N.Y.) played the puck out of the corner and to Putigna in the slot. She blasted a shot into the top corner to give the Friars a 2-1 lead 4:46 into the third.
- Putigna's goal was her 10th of the year. It also marked her second point of the game.
- Murphy's assist was her 18th of the season. The sophomore forward now has 39 points on the year.
- The Friars sealed the game with excellent team defense, playing the majority of the final three minutes 6-on-5.
- Madison Myers (Colchester, Vt.) finished with 24 saves. Carly Jackson made 19 at the other end for Maine.
- Providence is now 2-0-0 against Maine this year. The teams will conclude the regular-season series tomorrow.
