Women’s Hockey Concludes Regular Season With Win At No. 8 Boston University

The Friars will enter the playoffs with a 22-10-2 overall record and as the fourth-seed in Hockey East.

BOSTON, Mass. – The Providence College women's hockey team battled to a 2-1 road victory over No. 8 Boston University on Saturday, Feb. 23.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
- Despite leading 13-5 in shots on goal in the first period, the Friars trailed 1-0 after the opening 20 minutes.
- Boston University's goal came at the 7:33 mark of the first on the power play. Reagan Rust played a back-door pass to Natasza Tarnowski, who finished on the doorstep.
- Corinne Schroeder made 13 first-period saves to keep the Friars off the board.
- Providence responded with a power-play goal of its own early in the second period. Christina Putigna (Grimsby, Ontario) sniped the top corner on Schroeder's blocker side to make it 1-1.
- Putigna's goal, which was assisted by Avery Fransoo (North Battleford, Saskatchewan) and Kate Friesen (Altona, Manitoba), was her 13th of the season.
- Fransoo's assist was her 15th of the year, while Friesen's was her sixth.
- The Friars struck again at the 12:05 mark of the period. Putigna dropped a pass for Meaghan Rickard (Coventry, R.I.), who knocked it to Whitney Dove (Port Moody, British Columbia). Dove's slap shot made it through traffic and into the back of the net for her sixth goal of the season.
- Rickard's assist marked her 13th of the year and extends her point streak to six games.
- The middle of the third period featured several penalties. Providence had 46 seconds of 5-on-3, followed by 1:15 of 4-on-4 and then a short BU power play. Neither team was able to find the back of the net during the various special teams' situations.
- Overall, the Friars killed three BU power plays in the third to keep the Terriers from finding the back of the net to tie the game.
- Madison Myers (Colchester, Vt.) made 25 saves for Providence, including 11 in the third period to seal the win.
- The Friars conclude the regular-season series with a 1-2-0 record against Boston University.
- Providence will enter the Hockey East Tournament as the fourth seed and host fifth-seeded Merrimack next weekend (March 1-3) in a best-of-three series.
- The win was the Friars' third over a ranked opponent this season.
