Providence’s Joao Serrano Named To 2019 United Soccer Coaches Men’s Division I Scholar All-East Region First Team

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College men's soccer senior Joao Serrano (Evora, Portugal) was named to the 2019 United Soccer Coaches Men's Division I Scholar All-East Region First Team on Monday, Dec. 16. Serrano is earning a degree in Business Management and has a 3.50 GPA.
 
To be eligible for Scholar All-Region recognition, student-athletes must have obtained a 3.30 cumulative grade point average or better throughout their career, started more than 50% of all games, and be a junior or above in academic standing.
 
In the 2019 season, Serrano led the team in assists (nine), recorded four goals and had 17 points. Each of his offensive totals marked career highs. The defender started 22 games for the Friars and played 1,954 minutes in the backline. Serrano was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Sept. 2, Sept. 16 and Sept. 23. He was also named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on Nov. 8. To conclude the season, he was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team.
