PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The No. 3 seed Providence College men's soccer team defeated the No. 6 seed Marquette Golden Eagles in the First Round of the BIG EAST Championship. Three different players scored for the Friars in the thrilling victory on Nov. 9 on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. This was the Friars' second shutout of the season over Marquette.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
- Luka Prpa took the first shot of the day for the Golden Eagles in the sixth minute.

Austin Aviza (Medway, Mass) kept it tied up on a save in center net.
- In the 29th minute
Joao Serrano (Evora, Portugal) took a corner kick and found
Esben Wolf (Copenhagen, Denmark) near the far post who scored across the net. Friars took the lead, 1-0.
- The Friars had control of the ball throughout the first half of the match and outshot the Golden Eagles, 6-2.
- In the 55
th minute, Christian Marquez picked up a yellow card for Marquette that resulted in a penalty kick. Serrano took the PK for the Friars, but goalie Cedrik Stern was able to make the diving save in the lower right of the net to keep the Friars lead to one.
- Providence scored again in the 62
nd minute on a tip in by
Trevor Davock (Medway, Mass.) to put them up 2-0.
Danny Griffin (Wethersfield, Conn.) broke away from the defender but was challenged to the ground by the Marquette goalie. Davock was not far behind the play and scored on an open net.
- In the 79th minute, the Friars increased their lead to 3-0. Wolf had a near chance for his second goal of the game, but keeper Cedrik Stern was able to make the save on the first shot.
Paulo Lima (Lisbon, Portugal) found himself in the right spot and was able to score on the rebound right outside the 6-yard box.
- Friars had seven shots on goal compared to the Golden Eagles' two and had the advantage in corner kicks, 8-2.
- Aviza recorded his eighth shutout and tenth overall as a team.
- Lima scored his fifth straight goal and Wolf his second.
